The Coimbatore City Police have extended the enforcement of Sections 41 and 41(A) of the Tamil Nadu City Police Act, 1888, until the midnight of July 17, 2026. The order prohibits public meetings, protests, processions, demonstrations, hunger strikes and events involving loudspeakers without prior police permission to maintain public order and ensure the safety of citizens.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Police have extended the implementation of Sections 41 and 41(A) of the Tamil Nadu City Police Act, 1888, across the city police limits until the midnight of July 17, 2026, following orders issued by the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner.
The restrictions, which were previously in force from June 19 until the midnight of July 3, 2026, have now been extended in the interest of maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety.
According to the police, the order has been issued to preserve public peace, maintain law and order, and safeguard the lives and property of residents within the Coimbatore City Police limits.
Under the extended restrictions, no public meetings, demonstrations, processions, road blockades, hunger strikes, public gatherings or programmes involving the use of loudspeakers shall be conducted without obtaining prior permission from the police.
The police stated that the restrictions are intended to prevent activities that could disrupt normal public life, affect traffic movement or disturb public peace.
Political parties, organisations, associations and individuals intending to organise any public meeting, procession or public event during the restriction period have been directed to obtain prior permission from the police before conducting such programmes.
The Coimbatore City Police have warned that violations of the order will invite appropriate legal action under the provisions of the Tamil Nadu City Police Act, 1888, and other applicable laws. The police have also appealed to political parties, social organisations, associations and the general public to extend their full cooperation in maintaining law and order across the city.
