Coimbatore: Ms. Shalini A, a final year B.Tech. (Information Technology) student at Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology (SRIT), Coimbatore, has achieved a significant milestone by being selected for the prestigious Internet Governance Internship Program offered by the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), New Delhi.

Shalini is among the 10 students selected nationwide for the 5th Cohort of the NIXI Internet Governance Internship, which commences on Monday, July 6, 2026. The selected interns will be based at the NIXI office in New Delhi and will work regular office hours throughout the duration of the program. The internship carries a consolidated stipend of Rs. 20,000 per month.

The Internet Governance Internship is a highly competitive national program that offers young talent hands-on exposure to the policy, technical, and administrative dimensions of internet governance in India. The program facilitates close collaboration with one of the country's key internet infrastructure institutions, providing invaluable experience to aspiring professionals in the field.

The Department of Information Technology at Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology has been working closely with organizations in Internet Governance, and this internship is the result of its sustained interactions. Very recently, the institution began offering a course on Universal Acceptance, an initiative supported by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). SRIT is the first institution in the country to offer a curricular course on this emerging subject.

Shalini's selection was made possible through her active participation in the Internet Society Chennai Learners Hub of Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology, an initiative supported by the Internet Society India Chennai Chapter. The Learners Hub has been instrumental in nurturing student interest in internet technologies, digital policy, and governance, and in creating pathways for students to engage with national and international internet ecosystem stakeholders.

The Managing Trustees of SNR Sons Charitable Trust, the Principal, faculty members, and students of Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology have congratulated Shalini on this remarkable achievement and wished her success in her internship tenure at NIXI.
