Private buses increase fares as state transport corporation goes on a strike

The state transport corporation has been on a strike for the past 3 days. Government buses have stopped plying. Taking advantage of the situation private buses have increased their fares leaving travellers with no other alternative. Many daily commuters have also complained regarding the issue.

All the government buses travelling in the southern districts have been put on hold. People have to rely on private buses. 90% of buses travelling from Sai Baba Colony to Nilgiris and Gandhipuram to Salem have stopped journeying. People can also be found travelling atop buses.

Temporary drivers cause worry to residents of Valparai

Earlier, there were 37 buses travelling from Valparai, however, ever since the strike only 32 buses have been commuting. The residents are concerned about their safety as the Pollachi Aliyar- Valparai road is extremely dangerous, on a hilly terrain and consists of a large number of hairpin bends, however, temporary drivers are hired to traverse through such roads since the strike.
