Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Police have seized 70 grams of methamphetamine allegedly being trafficked from Bengaluru for distribution in Coimbatore and Kerala. Four persons have been detained and are being questioned in connection with the case.
The seizure was made by the district police's special team, which has been carrying out intensified surveillance and vehicle checks across the district on the instructions of the Superintendent of Police.
According to the police, the special team received specific information that a consignment of narcotic substances was being transported from Bengaluru through Coimbatore to Kerala. Based on the tip-off, the team intensified surveillance and intercepted the suspects.
During the operation, police seized 70 grams of methamphetamine allegedly intended for sale in Coimbatore and parts of Kerala. The vehicles used by the suspects were also seized.
Preliminary investigation revealed that one of the detained persons is a resident of Saibaba Colony in Coimbatore, while the remaining three are from Anaikatti in Kerala, police said.
Investigators suspect the accused had procured the methamphetamine in Bengaluru and were planning to distribute it in Coimbatore and Kerala. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
Police said details regarding the value of the seized narcotics, the involvement of other persons in the trafficking network, and additional information about the vehicles used will be ascertained during the course of the investigation.
