Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy Dams Record Rising Water Levels Following Continuous Inflow

Amaravathi Dam in Tirupur district reaches 51.45 feet on July 22 with continuous inflow of 53 cubic feet per second. Thirumoorthy Dam near Udumalaipettai stands at 34.85 feet with inflow of 379 cubic feet per second as reported by Water Resources Department officials.

Coimbatore: The water levels in two major dams in Tirupur district have shown significant changes following continuous inflow from their catchment areas, according to the latest report from Water Resources Department officials released on July 22.

The Amaravathi Dam, located in Tirupur district with a total capacity of 90 feet, has recorded a water level of 51.45 feet as of today. The dam continues to receive steady inflow from its catchment areas, with the current inflow rate standing at 53 cubic feet per second. Water Resources Department officials confirmed that water is being discharged from the dam to maintain optimal levels.

Meanwhile, the Thirumoorthy Dam, situated near Udumalaipettai in Tirupur district, which has a maximum capacity of 60 feet, currently holds water at 34.85 feet. The dam is experiencing substantial inflow from its catchment regions, with water coming in at a rate of 379 cubic feet per second. Officials have stated that 21 cubic feet of water per second is being released from the dam.

Both dams play a crucial role in irrigation and water supply for the region. The Water Resources Department continues to monitor the water levels closely and manage the discharge accordingly to ensure safety while maximizing water storage for agricultural and domestic needs. The steady inflow during this period is attributed to the catchment area receiving adequate rainfall, which is beneficial for water security in the district.

Farmers and residents in the region are closely watching these developments as the water levels in both reservoirs directly impact irrigation schedules and water availability for the coming months. The department has assured that appropriate measures are being taken to manage the water resources efficiently.
