Coimbatore District Dams Record Rising Water Levels

Water levels in three major dams of Coimbatore district - Aliyar, Parambikkulam, and Sholaiyar - showed significant improvement as of July 25. Continuous inflow from southwest monsoon brings relief to farmers. Water Resources Department officials released detailed statistics on storage and discharge rates.

Coimbatore: The Water Resources Department has released the water level status of major dams in Coimbatore district, including Aliyar, Parambikkulam, and Sholaiyar, as of July 25. Farmers have expressed satisfaction as the dams continue to receive steady inflow due to the ongoing southwest monsoon rains.

The Aliyar dam, located near Anaimalai, has a total storage capacity of 120 feet. As of today, the water level stands at 55.5 feet, receiving inflow from its catchment areas. The dam is currently receiving an inflow of 239 cubic feet per second, while 250 cubic feet per second is being discharged. Water Resources Department officials stated that the inflow has been gradually decreasing due to reduced rainfall in the catchment areas.

The Parambikkulam dam, situated near Pollachi, has a total storage capacity of 72 feet. The current water level has reached 22.37 feet as of today. The dam is receiving an inflow of 1,098 cubic feet per second, with 40 cubic feet per second being discharged. Farmers are pleased as the water level continues to rise steadily due to the southwest monsoon, officials reported.

The Sholaiyar dam near Valparai has a total capacity of 160 feet. The current water level stands at 71.85 feet. The dam is receiving an inflow of 276 cubic feet per second, while 1,384 cubic feet per second is being discharged. Water Resources Department officials confirmed that the dam's water level continues to rise steadily.

With the southwest monsoon continuing to bring rainfall, farmers are hopeful that adequate water will be available for irrigation purposes as the inflow to the dams increases. Water Resources Department officials are continuously monitoring the water level situation across all three dams to ensure optimal management of water resources for agricultural and domestic needs.
