Three Convicted, Sentenced to 7 Years for Robbing and Assaulting Man in Coimbatore

Three men have been sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment each by a Coimbatore court for robbing and assaulting a man in 2022. They were also fined ₹5,000, with an additional one-year jail term ordered in case of non-payment of the fine.

Coimbatore: A court in Coimbatore has sentenced three men to seven years of rigorous imprisonment each for robbing and assaulting a person in 2022.

According to the police, the incident took place around 11 p.m. on March 9, 2022. A1 Prashanth allegedly contacted the victim over the phone and took the person to a vacant site behind a hospital within the Saibaba Colony police station limits.

While Prashanth was allegedly forcing the victim into a sexual act, the other two accused, A2 Nishanth Kumar and A3 Manickam, arrived at the spot. The three allegedly threatened the victim with a knife and assaulted the person using a wooden stick and an iron rod. They then allegedly fled after stealing ₹5,000 in cash and an Apple iPhone.

A case was registered and an investigation was conducted. The three accused—Prashanth, Nishanth Kumar and Manickam were arrested on April 4, 2022, and sent to judicial custody.

The case was subsequently taken up for trial before the Coimbatore court. After completing the examination of witnesses, the court delivered its verdict on August 31, 2026, sentencing all three accused to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and imposing a fine of ₹5,000 each.

The court further ordered an additional one-year imprisonment for each in case of non-payment of the fine.
