Gold Jewellery Theft Case: College Student Arrested in Pollachi

A 19-year-old woman, who is a second-year college student, has been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of nine sovereigns of gold jewellery from a house in Unjavelampatti, Pollachi. Police said the jewellery was allegedly sold for cash, with part of the proceeds reportedly used to purchase a new two-wheeler.

Coimbatore: Following the recent incident in Coimbatore where two college students, reportedly in a relationship, were arrested in connection with a chain-snatching case, another gold theft case involving a college student has now been reported in Pollachi.

The complainant, Tamilselvan, 59, and a resident of Chandrapuram Road, Unjavelampatti, had lodged a complaint with the police after finding that gold jewellery kept inside a bureau at his residence was missing.

According to the complaint, Joy Princy (19), a second-year student at Government College, Pollachi, and the daughter of the complainant’s friend, had visited Tamilselvan’s house at around 1.30 p.m. on August 16, 2026. The jewellery was subsequently found missing, leading the complainant to suspect that it could have been taken during her visit.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation. During the course of the probe, Joy Princy was secured and questioned by the police.

Police said that during interrogation, she allegedly admitted to taking the gold jewellery from the bureau at the complainant’s residence and selling it for cash at a jewellery shop in Pollachi.

Further investigation reportedly revealed that the money obtained from the sale of the stolen jewellery was allegedly used to purchase a new two-wheeler for her Janagan Siva, her boyfriend.

Following the investigation, she was arrested and produced before the competent court and subsequently remanded in judicial custody at the Coimbatore Central Prison for Women.

Meanwhile, police said her boy friendis absconding and efforts are underway to trace and secure him.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
