Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Dr. N. Kannan, IPS, today launched, the ‘Singappen Pink Booth’, to enable women to report safety concerns directly to women police personnel, through a QR-based digital reporting facility. The initiative will initially be implemented at Hope College and R.S. Puram.
For a woman facing harassment, stalking or a threat to her safety, reaching the police at the right moment can make all the difference. In a move aimed at making police assistance more accessible, the Coimbatore City Police on Saturday launched the ‘Singappen Pink Booth’, a dedicated safe point where women can seek help without hesitation.
The initiative was inaugurated by City Police Commissioner Dr. N. Kannan, IPS, to strengthen the Tamil Nadu Police’s Singappen Special Force. The booths are being set up at key public locations with heavy footfall, particularly those frequented by women, students and the general public.
Rather than functioning as a separate police unit, the Pink Booth will serve as a permanent safety and communication point linked to the Singappen Special Force. Women can approach women police personnel directly, report concerns through a QR-based digital facility, or use the SOS mechanism to alert the police control room and nearby Singappen patrol teams. Depending on the urgency, the complaint can be immediately coordinated with the concerned police station, All-Women Police Station, Cyber Crime Wing or other specialised units.
The initiative will initially be implemented at Hope College Junction on Avinashi Road and R.S. Puram, areas identified for their high public movement and the presence of educational institutions, women’s hostels, commercial establishments and transport hubs.
Information received through the booths will be combined with Singappen patrol inputs to identify vulnerable locations and timings, enabling police to step up patrols, assess CCTV and lighting, monitor suspicious persons and vehicles, coordinate with educational institutions and hostels, and conduct safety-awareness programmes.
Police have urged women not to wait for a crime to occur before seeking help. If they feel threatened, harassed or followed, they can approach the nearest Pink Booth, which is intended to serve as a “Safe Point” while helping police prevent potential threats before they escalate.
The initiative carries the message: “One Woman – One Call – Immediate Police Assistance.”
