The Valparai Police have registered a case against 10 members of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) for allegedly creating a commotion at the Valparai Government Hospital and threatening doctors under the pretext of conducting a self-inspection. The complaint was lodged by the hospital’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Madhu Preetha.
Coimbatore: The Valparai Police have registered a case against 10 alleged members of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) for allegedly creating a commotion at the Valparai Government Hospital and threatening doctors while claiming to conduct a self-inspection.
According to the complaint lodged by Dr. Madhu Preetha, Chief Medical Officer of the Valparai Government Hospital, a group of 10 people claiming to be TVK members barged into the hospital on the evening of September 24 and used abusive language against her and other doctors, besides behaving in a threatening manner.
The complaint stated that the group claimed to have permission to conduct an inspection and allegedly threatened the Chief Medical Officer with serious consequences if their actions were questioned. However, the complainant stated that the group had no official authorisation to carry out such an inspection.
The group moved through various sections of the hospital, inspected its facilities, and recorded videos and photographs of doctors, hospital staff and patients.
When questioned about their authority to conduct the inspection, the members behaved aggressively and used abusive and disrespectful language against doctors and staff, questioned their work, and issued threats, causing fear and mental distress among those on duty, according to the complaint.
Following complaint by the chief medical officer and an inquiry involving healthcare personnel and members of the public who witnessed the incident, Valparai Police Inspector Selvam registered a case against the 10 alleged TVK members.
The case was registered under Sections 329, 221, 352, 296(b) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Section 3 of the Tamil Nadu Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to Property) Act.
None of the individuals on whom cases have been filed have been named in the FIR. Further details are awaited.
