The prolonged summer paired along with delayed monsoons has let the water levels at the Aliyar dam go below the dipping point. Presently, the consistent south-west monsoon showers at Valparai has vastly impacted on the water levels of Aliyar dam. The rain waters from the hilly terrain of Valparai slides through the slopes and reaches the Aliyar dam and monkey falls.
Though marginal, the increase of water levels has cheered the farmers around the Pollachi division as the water dispersed from the dam is much needed for the 6400 acres of fertile farm lands around Pollachi. The current water levels of Aliyar is 78.15/120 feet with incoming water level measured at 137 Cubic feet and disbursement at 222 cubic feet.
