The 59th edition of the Republic day sports event was flagged off today at the Nehru Stadium by Coimbatore City Mayor P.Rajkumar in the presence of District Educational Officer and School authorities.
The participants were from Coimbatore 'A' division. Close to 1200 students from 42 schools will be participating in this two-day event.
The event will feature Long Jump, Javelin, Shot-put , Discus throw, Hurdles and Running 100, 200, 300, 1000, 3000, 5000 mts.
The prize distribution ceremony is planned at 4pm on 9th August, at the stadium. The winners will be accoladed with medals and certificates and a overall championship trophy will be awarded to the all-rounder of the tournament.
