Forest Officials nab accused of Mangarai Elephant death incident

On July 14th, A 6-year-old elephant was severely injured at Ponnuthamman hills near Pannimadai as it came in contact with a bait by accident (low-intensity cracker) and acquired severe injuries around its facial area. The forest officials tried hard to rescue the calf for treatment, unfortunately, the calf died on July 29th in a brick Kiln at Mankarai.

The forest officials registered a case against the incident and were in search of Rangaraj (40) from Somayampalayam Village and Murugan (41) from Chinnathadagam, the accused who had set the bait. Yesterday, the forest dept arrested Murugan and have set a frantic search for the other accused.
