The 3-day European Union Film Festival (EUFF) held at Bharathiar University by the Department of Communication and Media Studies in association with the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAF), Chennai concluded on Wednesday with the screening of the movie, Admiral from Netherlands.
More than 1,500 participants ranging from college-going students to the general public in and around Coimbatore attended the film festival. A total of 23 movies from various European Union nations were screened in the festival.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. A. Ganapathi, in his inaugural address motivated the Department of Communication to feature similar events in the future. He stated that through such film festivals, the students can understand different cultures and get to know the importance of connecting with the society.
European Union Film festivals were held in ten cities across the country, before it was held here, said Mr. Sivan Kantian, the President of ICAF, Chennai. "Film lovers will find the technical nuances in these movies to be a novel experience," he said. These movies show the cultural diversity of those countries as well as the technical brilliance of the movie makers, he remarked.
ICAF is well known for hosting the annual Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF). They are a non-profit organisation working for the promotion of parallel movies. Apart from the annual CIFF, they hold international film festivals in association with foreign embassies and consulates every month. Mr. E Thangaraj, the General Secretary of ICAF said "We want people to watch and appreciate world class movies'.
Overall the EUFF 2016 was a grand success and the participants have expressed their over-whelming support for the event.
