Collector reviews security arrangements for Vinayakar Chathurthi


A review meeting was held at the Collector Office regarding the pre-arrangements towards forthcoming Vinayakar Chathruthi on 5th September, 2016.



District Collector, T.N. Hariharan presided over the meeting. The following are the points of discussions at the meeting:

  • The officials discussed mainly on the security measures thats needs to be implemented throughout the city and especially at the places were the idols are to be installed. 
  • The roof of the idol installation centres should be made of steel or asbestos and proper safety measures should be incorporated by the team handling the idols.
  • Organisations or individuals, who install the idols at public places should submit their details at the local police station and the idols should be installed only at the permitted places announced by the officials.
  • Regarding the emulsions and colours used on the idols, he urged that the idols should be painted and created using bio-degradable materials like clay or tapioca flour, etc., all as per the guidelines issued by the Pollution Control Board. Idols created using plaster of paris will not be allowed, he said.
  • Hence, he urged the officials of the Pollution Control Board to ensure that the set protocols are being followed and to initiate stringent action against those who don't comply to the orders.
  • Local Bodies, Electricity Boards and the Corporation Officials should ensure proper lighting facility at all installation and immersion sites. 
  • He ordered to remove all the encroachments at the procession routes. 
  • A detailed report on the number of idols, installation sites, immersion sites, routes taken during procession, details of vehicles designated to carry the idols should be prepared by the officials.
  • The officials were asked to devise the traffic diversions without disturbing the public's routine.


Finally, the Collector instructed the officials of all concerned departments to be in a prepared state to handle any unforeseen eventuality. 

Assistant Commissioner of Police Ms. Lakshmi IPS, Superintendent of Police, Ms. Ramya Bharathi IPS, District Revenue Officer Mr. T. Christu Raj, religious leaders, Members of political outfits and government officials from all the departments attended the meeting.
