8 months old baby raped to death


The grievous incident reporting on the death of a 8-month old child due to sexual abuse has shook the people of the City.

Dumkun Maji (24) and Maladevi (20) were contractual workers at Surya Coirs, Negamam, Pollachi district. They were staying at the in-house quarters at the factory. Yesterday, they had left their two children, Saritha, 8 months and Reeta, 2-years old at their home and went to the factory.

When they returned home by afternoon, they were shocked to see their baby girl , Saritha, lying unconsciousness in a pool of blood. They rushed the baby to the Pollachi Government Hospital. The doctors examined the baby and declared dead on arrival. The doctors confirmed the death was due to a brutal rape attempt on the child. 

Initial investigation reveal that Sanjith (21) neighbour of the couple had molested the baby and tortured it to death.

The Negamam Police Inspector Ravi has arrested the accused under the POCSO ACT 2012, (The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences  Act, 2012) and section 302 for murder.

Parents of the victim and the accused are migrant labourers from Pattodi Village, Samastipur Jilla, Bihar. Currently, the baby's body is under post-mortem at Coimbatore medical college.
