Mansoor Ali, District Media Coordinator, Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in his petition has demanded for the closure of the TASMAC shops situated at Sugunapuram and Thondamuthur areas.
He stated that both the shops are situated in residential areas and a Corporation Childrens school is also located in the annexing area of the Tasmac. The shop opens by around 6 am in the morning, which is against the orders proposed by the Tamil Nadu Government, he said. One of the tasmac is close to Minister SP Velumani's (Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development and Implementation of Special Programme) residence, hence the place is always thronged with people, who often enter into tussle and create immense nuisance to the public, they stated.
The public, children, commuters, pedestrians are greatly affected due to the boozehounds wandering on the roads, near the Tasmac sites. He evoked that their party, on 26th August had organised a special signature campaign at Sugunapuram, followed by filing a petition at the Collectorate. The party members apprised that they would intensify their protests, if the officials fail to respond to their plea.
