Los Angeles airport evacuated as cops investigate reports of shootout

Police say they are searching the terminals and social media posts show many people fleeing Los Angeles International Airport amid rumours of a possible shooting.

Airport police say they are searching terminals on Monday morning, but there is no confirmation of any shootings or injuries.

Scores of people could be seen on social media and on TV news running from the terminal out onto the sidewalks and streets. Many other evacuees are standing on the airport tarmac.

Airport police say traffic to the terminal area has been closed.

A tweet from the airport police department said "Police searching LAX after reports. All precautions being taken to ensure the safety of public. Remain calm. Thank you for your cooperation."
