'Pasumai Desam' a city-based NGO had organised a tree planting drive at Madukkarai Market area, Sundarapuram. City Corporation Commissioner, Dr. Vijaya Karthikeyan flagged off the drive and planted traditional tree saplings.

Edwin from Pasumai Desam reported that, “We started Pasumai Desam eight years ago and apart from tree plantation drives, our organisation is into diverse social welfare activities. As part of our motto, to make the world a greener place to live in, we have been involved continually in tree plantation initiatives at various parts of the city and suburbs. Close to 1000 tree saplings have been planted at Aadhiyur, Pollachi and we have choose 85 streets in the city for plantation drive and 13 varieties of traditional tree varieties would be planted, just a gentle reminder for the people on our lost traditions and cultures'.

The constraint faced by us financially delays our initiative and soon a herbal trees and plant variety exhibition cum sale would be devised by us. We have been collecting those varieties from Kerala and various interior parts of Tamil Nadu. In order to motivate and involve people into planting trees, we've planned to distribute free saplings according to their zodiac signs.

Rajendran, Organiser of Pasumai Desam, Ravindran, President, RAAC, Syed of OSAI foundation and other NGO's and volunteers of Pasumai Desam enthusiastically participated in the drive.
