Women at risk as chain snatchers prowl over the city

The uprising chain snatching incidents have been posing serious threat to the walkers, especially women and teenage girls. Even, after increased police patrolling in the city , the incidents haven't seem to be controlled.

A couple of days ago, on 17th September, two chain snatching incidents took place at Irugur and Peelamedu, near Fun Mall claiming 10 sovereign gold chains of elderly women, Chenniammal (65) and Dhanalakshmi (60). Yesterday, yet another incident has been reported, targeting a couple at RS Puram.

Sitaram and Sowmya, a couple from R.S.Puram, were returning home after purchasing weekend groceries. While they were walking through the Ponnurangam Road in RS Puram, two unidentified persons in their bike came closer and fast near the couple and snatched Sowmya's 7 sovereign gold chain and sped away. The couple were jolted by the incident and immediately escalated the issue to B2 Police Station, RS Puram.

The Police have registered a case and have set a full-fledged investigation to curb such incidents, in the future.
