The unprecedented march of more than 20 students of the 'All India Youth Federation' to the collectorate raising vehement slogans against the Government officials for demanding bribe from the public, tensed the premise for a brief time.
The students stated that they have all come with Rs. 500/- each to give as bribe to the Collectorate, so that they could resolve their long-pending works. They condemned that the Government officials of various departments have been outwardly demanding bribe from the public to issue ration cards, renewals, issue birth/death/community and caste certificates etc, especially they alleged the North and South Taluk offices of the city.
Kalayanasundaram, District President of All India Youth Federation reported that, 'the Government officials have been demanding bribes from the students who apply for any certificates or welfare schemes. A bribe of Rs. 10,000 has been demanded by the officials for issuance of ration cards'. Hence, frustrated by the unprincipled acts of the government department officials, the students demonstrated a novel way of protest, which surely garnered peoples'attention widely.
