Speed breakers in the city gets striped

Speed breakers are considered to be one of the important tool used to manage traffic and ensure safety conditions. However, the speed breakers are mostly seen as a nuisance by the motorists, as they have to halt their vehicles, every now and then and at times damages the under-body of the four wheelers, due to oversight.

Other than the regular sites, like educational institutions, hospitals, and public zebra crossing zones, in recent days, additional speed breakers have been laid at all residential road intersections, to avoid accidents and also a reminder for the motorists to slow down their vehicles speed.

However, unplanned and improperly maintained speed breakers can emerge very dangerous to the commuters. The motorists have been insisting to install proper signages, well ahead of the speed bumps, indicating it's presence and also paint the speed bumps, so that there is an additional visual warning.

Our Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) S. Saravanan has been implementing ways and means to educate and create awareness among the people regarding abiding the traffic rules. 'Just fining the public will not be a solution for the problem', he says.

He stated the steps taken by the traffic department to ward off the issues faced by the people with regard to speed breakers 'Today, the speed breakers at Saravanampatti to Thudiyalur road got painted with yellow and white stripes. Unpainted speed breakers leads to sudden breaking and cause vehicle collisions and accidents. Hence, we have planned to paint all the speed breakers in the city in yellow and white colors, as per the norms. Installation of signages indicating presence of the speed bumps, will also be done during the course of time' he said.
