Shopkeeper held for trading 'cow dung chemical powder'

A shopkeeper at Ramanathapuram was detained for trading banned 'Cow dung chemical powder' (Sani powder). The spade of suicides has been the sole reason to enlist the 'Cow dung powder' under the 'banned goods' registry. Locally, referred to as ' Sani Powder' is a highly lethal neurotoxic poison which has claimed the lives of many, mostly in the rural and sub-urban areas. There is no antidote available for saving the victims.

In recent times, the alarming rate of suicide by consuming 'Sani powder' is 'appalling' and hence the city police are on a checking spree at all petty shops to rule out trading of 'Cow dung' powder'. Today, a shopkeeper Mohan (35) was arrested at Ramanthapuram area for trading the 'banned' product. Around 20 packets of cow dung powder was seized from his shop.

On 11th September, a shopkeeper Pattulingam (33) was held at NA Thevar Street, Ramanathapuram, under similar offence.
