With the aim of fulfilling the dream of our former President APJ Abdul Kalam, city-based Brookefields Mall partnered with Rotary Club of Coimbatore, Corporate house Bosch and NGO My City Clean City (MC3) to launch the Kovai Green League (KGL).

Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) Commissioner, Dr K. Vijayakarthikeyan, quoted during the launch of KGL this July 'The aim of this campaign is to increase the green cover in our city. We have plans of involving schools, colleges, NGOs corporate houses and the citizens of Coimbatore in the KGL initiative'.

Presently, five city-based schools are a part of the KGL initiative and this project will be implemented in more schools in our city. The participating schools are Chinmaya Vidhyalaya, Coimbatore Public School, R K Sree Rangammal Higher Secondary School, Corporation Higher Secondary School and Coimbatore Ranganathapuram Girls Higher Secondary School. The Principals of the five participating schools along with a few students were present at the launch.
Volunteers and those who are associated with KGL visited the Chinmaya Vidhyalaya last month. The KGL team apprised the students on the initiative.

Today a session on the same lines was hosted at Coimbatore RS Puram Boys Higher Secondary School and R K Sree Rangammal Higher Secondary School. As part of the initiative a documentary on Nilgiri biosphere reserve was also screened for the students. The school children were moved to watch the clippings that brought to light how animals are being trapped. During an informal interactive session with the school children, Ajay a representative of NGO World Wide Fund (WWF) for nature shared some interesting facts about wildlife, as well.

Motivated by the response that they have received, the KGL team has plans of hosting similar sessions for students of Coimbatore Public Schools.

SimpliCity wishes the KGL team a great success in all its initiatives.
