Court dismisses petition seeking police custody of Maoist Deepak

Coimbatore: Justice Sakthivel of Principal Sessions Court here on Tuesday dismissed the petition filed by the Thadagam Police seeking 10 days police custody of Deepak, the Maoist arrested at Chembukarai here on Movement 9.


Coimbatore: Justice Sakthivel of Principal Sessions Court here on Tuesday dismissed the petition filed by the Thadagam Police seeking 10 days police custody of Deepak, the Maoist arrested at Chembukarai here on Movement 9. 

Human Rights Organisation, State President and lawyer B. Mohan who is representing Deepak alleged that they have been denied to meet their client and requested permission to met him. Justice Sakthivel granted permission for the lawyers of Deepak to visit him and adjourned the case to afternoon session. 

During the noon session, Advocate Mohan raised yet another allegation stating that despite Court orders to meet his client, they were not allowed by the Prison SP and the Resident doctor at Coimbatore GH. 

After hearing the arguments, Justice Sakthivel dismissed the plea filed by the Thadagam police and ordered to lodge Maoist Deepak in prison. He was later taken to the prison and remanded. 

Addressing the media, Advocate Mohan said that "We are planning to file a contempt of Court case in Madras High Court against the Jail SP and the residents doctor for not allowing them to meet Deepak in spite of court orders directing them to permit."

He also alleged that Deepak's life is at stake and he has sustained severe injuries due to police assualt.
