He also criticised that Minister SP Velumani's announcement to form a three-member committee to review the hike in property tax is nothing but an election stunt.
"The Minister never responded to any of our many protests against hike in property tax. With local body elections nearing, he has made this announcement to appease the public", alleged MLA Karthik at a press meet held at District DMK party office at Vadakovai on Wednesday.
Recalling the series of protests held by DMK and their coalition parties against SUEZ water distribution project, the Singanallur constituency legislator strongly stressed that when local body representatives are not been elected, the Corporation should have refrained from leasing water distribution project for 26 years to a multi national company.
"It was an autonomous decision by the City Corporation and no public opinion was sought", he alleged.
He apprised that "Though our earlier protests were not considered, we will be holding yet another protest on November 28 against the City Corporation for their inaction in attending to basic civic issues of the people and against Suez contract."
