Members of the Coimbatore chapter of the All India Youth Federation (AIYF) filed two petitions with the district collector. In one of their petitions a ban on the one number lottery was requested for. It was also stated by the petitioners that despite this lottery banned, the same operates through various online channels and mobile phone networks.
Several people from our city have been pushed to the brink of poverty because of their active participation in the one number lottery. Several cases have been registered with the Thudiyalur Police and in other police stations in this regard. However, the petitioners allege that no action has been taken in this regard.
In another petition, it was stated that the Government must come to the rescue of migrant Indian workers. The petitioners brought to light that several Indians are employed as fishermen in Dubai. They (fishermen) have not been paid the remuneration that was promised to them. Furthermore, false cases have been registered against the fishermen and they are lodged in prison. Members of the AIYF urged the central government to ensure the safety of Indian residing in foreign countries.
