Social activists demand Valparai be declared as a tourist destination

Valparai is thronged with visitors all through the year. During the summer and winter seasons, this region receives a huge tourist inflow. The popularity of this place has prompted several social activists to demand that Valparai be declared as a tourist destination.

Private cabs and auto rickshaws are regarded as the best transport options to move around this city. However, cab operators and auto rickshaw drivers allege that they are not provided with the basic facilities.

In a bid to offer customers (tourists) a ride, cab and auto rickshaw drivers have their respective vehicles parked on the roads. This causes traffic snarls on the roads. The police on traffic duty have on several occasions requested cab operators and auto rickshaw drivers to have their vehicles parked in a location to avoid traffic congestion on the roads. This cab operators and auto rickshaw drivers say is not helping them attract customers and their business is hit.

Thus, cab operators and auto rickshaw drivers have stated they need basic facilities like an auto stand and a taxi stand. This will make it easy for tourists, the drivers and it will at the same time solve the issue of traffic congestion on the roads.
