Rescued female elephant gives birth to a male calf at Sadivayal.

The 30-year-old pregnant unwell female elephant at Periya Thadagam was shifted to Sadivayal a couple of days back for continued treatment and monitoring. Today, the elephant at 4:30 am gave birth to a healthy male calf. Both the mom and the calf are doing fine, said sources from Sadivayal. The dedicated efforts of the medical team led by Dr. Manoharan and the support crew has restored back the life of a 30-year-old female elephant along with the new born back to the eco-system.

On 19th October, the unwell elephant was spotted lying unconscious at a empty land near a brick kiln at Periya Thadagam. A special crew of doctors under the guidance of Dr. Manoharan camped there at the spot and was providing all due treatment for the elephant which was basically very weak and tired.

On 21st October, after notable progress in health, the elephant still experienced recurring health weakness. And that's when the medical crew decided to shift the pregnant elephant to Sadivayal for providing extended care and nourishments through food.

Since then the elephant started showing good signs of improvement in health. Continued monitoring along with nutrient supplements and antibiotics were administered. And, as a great sigh of relief, the elephant gave birth to a calf this morning at the Sadivayal camp. The medical team has planned to continue their monitoring and administration of nourishments for a few more days, until the elephant and the calf could sustain on it's own.
