The residents of Thaliyur of Pannimadai Panchayat had been experiencing an unusually dreadful smell in the vicinity of their homes. As the smell showed no signs of subsiding, the residents were prompted to search the neighbouring farmland.

The forest officials discovered that the pit contained carcass of two snakes, two quails, a crow and ten peacocks in a decayed form. The death of the national bird, Peacock in large numbers inside a pit caused suspicion among the officials and the public. Hence, the owner of the farmland Rajagopal has been called upon for an explanation in this regard.
