Drunk lorry driver causes multiple accidents injuring 40 people


Early this morning, a goods lorry travelling from Coimbatore to Salem crashed into five vehicles causing severe injuries to close to 40 people. It is reported that the driver who was at the wheels was in an inhibited condition and was driving the lorry on the wrong lane of the National Highways. The driver lost control of his vehicle near Chengapalli and crashed the lorry on two cars. Both the cars were on their way to Coimbatore from Erode. Four passengers who are travelling in the car were also injured in the accident.



The lorry also crashed into a two wheeler before the driver rammed the lorry into a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus. Finally, the lorry crashed into another lorry carrying goods and stopped by. It is reported that about 40 people have been injured in the impact of the series of crashes. The drunken lorry driver is injured too. All the injured are currently undergoing treatment at the Government Hospital (GH) in Erode.

Upon receiving information of this massive accident, Inspector General of Police, A. Pari, Superintendent of Police. E.S. Uma and Uthukuli police reached the accident location and started the preliminary investigation.
