Boy who attacked girl for refusing to marry him, remanded in prison

Cases of lovers assaulting their partner who refuse to marry them are rising. In most cases the female is the victim. A fresh case has been reported in our city. A 28-year-old engineering graduate was arrested here on Wednesday night for compelling and assaulting his Facebook lover who apparently refused to marry him.

According to the sources, four year ago, Kanakalakshmi, MCA first year student in Bharathiar University and Vemburaj, an unemployed civil engineering graduate, became friends on Facebook. Their friendship developed into a relationship.

On Wednesday, the boy went to Bharathiar University to meet the girl in person for the first time. During the meeting, the boy had allegedly compelled the girl to marry him immediately in a month time. As she refused to marry him, a verbal quarrel broke out between the two and subsequently, the boy attacked the girl on her neck with a broken bottle. People who found the girl, rushed her to nearby private hospital in the locality.

The Vandalism police has registered a case against Vemburaj under various sections, including Tamil Nadu Women Harassment Act. The accused has been arrested and currently lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison.
