An Elephant calf has been reported dead at the Sirumugai Forest Range (SFR). The SFR is one of the preferred grazing grounds for elephants, bisons, deers, leopard and varied birds species. The SFR comprises of many water bodies hence these wild animals are found in large numbers.

Yesterday, a calf close to a year old was found dead at the SFR near Bhavani back waters. Initial reports say that the calf would have died in a herd conflict. The forest offcials would be carrying a post-morterm today to ascertain the real cause for it's death.
On 30th October, an abandoned calf that was rescued at an adjacent area in STR was rescued and shifted to Mudumalai tiger reserve. However, it died not responding to treatment. Now, the death of another calf at the same forest boundaries has shocked the forest officials and animal enthusiasts.
