The recently introduced feature on WhatsApp is doing more bad than good. Spammers victimise unaware users with the new video calling feature introduced in WhatsApp. WhatsApp introduced a video calling feature earlier this week. As soon as the feature was introduced many WhatsApp users started receiving invitations in form a hyperlink in their WhatsApp messenger which invites the user to try the new WhatsApp video calling feature.
When the users click the link it takes the users to another website where the user will be asked for a user verification and once the respective user clicks on the link the user will be asked to invite their friends by sharing the invitations.
When a user clicks the link the WhatsApp user will be exposed to spammers who might be able to hack into the WhatsApp account. The right way to enable is to just update the WhatsApp application through play store. As soon as the WhatsApp application gets updated, the video calling feature will be enabled.
WhatsApp users are warned to be careful about such links they receive even from known contacts as they might be victim of the spammers themselves.
