A mega event for the school children was hosted today by Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) at GD Matriculation School. This is an annual event conducted by SACON for the school children to motivate and educate them on nature. 'Nature' was the topic chosen for this year district-level competition for school children.
More than 1000 students from close to 45 schools around the district of Coimbatore participated in the competitions. Elocution, painting, drawing, sketching, poem reciting, story telling, essay writing were the competitions hosted at the event. The competitions were held in both Tamil and English.
Different pictures and photos of birds were also displayed in the event. Students were asked to identify the bird name, such events evoked the curiosity and widened the knowledge of the students on ornithology- the study of birds.
The students actively participated in the events and thoroughly enjoyed the day as they gained more insights about nature and varieties of birds.
