Reacting to farmers' anger, Indian Government permits farmers to use of banned high denomination currency to purchase seeds

Earlier, it was reported that the farmers were prohibited to use the banned high denomination currency to purchase seeds. Reacting to the farmers’ anger, the Modi Government today made an official announcement permitting the farmers to purchase seeds using this banned currency.

The Government also announced that seeds can be purchased using the banned high denomination currency from the outlets of central or state governments, state-run enterprises and national or state seeds companies and agricultural universities after furnishing a valid proof of identity.

An official statement from the Government said, "The government is committed to ensure that the farmers are suitably facilitated during the Rabi season."
