Today, the students of Sri Ramakrishna College for Engineering joined hands with the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) to initiate a Thematic Clean-up drive around the areas of CMC Colony.

As part of the drive the students and volunteers of NGO's along with the CCMC workers enthusisatically participated in this massive cleaning drive at the CMC Colony. This colony is located between Variety hall road and Oppanakara street and it is to be noted that most of the sanitary workers' live here.


Arumugam, a resident of CMC colony when speaking to Simplicity said that, “There are about 450 families residing in this colony. We feel very happy as the efforts of these college students has transformed our living area into a much better and cleaner place. They have created an impact in every resident's mind, we now know the necessity to keep our place clean. Once, this drive is completed, we will surely try our best to maintain the sanitation standards in our area'.

The cleaning drive started from 7 am to 9 am. CCMC has provided all the neccessary cleaning equipments and safety equipments for the students who were involved in this cleaning drive. Students and volunteers also went on a door-to-door campaign to create awareness among the residents to avoid using plastic bags for their daily shopping needs.

The initiative was carried out under the guidance of CCMC Commissioner Vijayakarthikeyan, Deputy Commissioner Gandhimathi, Assistant Town Planning Officer, Hemalatha, Zonal Sanitary Officer and Gunasekeran, Swachh Bharat Coordinator Thirumal.
