Collector inspects toilets constructed under the Swachh Bharat Mission

District Collector T.N. Hariharan today inspected the on-going construction of the toilets sanctioned under the Swachh Bharath Scheme aimed at eliminating open defecation.



Today the collector paid visits to villages under Sulur, Sulthanpettai and Thondamuthur areas. While addressing the press, 'As part of the efforts of the Tamilnadu Chief Minister Dr.J. Jayalalitha to improve the sanitation levels of the people in Tamilnadu, the government has been lending their fullest support on the schemes introduced by the central government. One such scheme is building of toilets at all rural and sub-urban areas to abolish open-defecation'. People irrespective of age or the place, whether it is a city or a village should use only toilets.



This initiative aims at creating a cleaner and safer environment at the villages and also ensures safety of women and children. People from rural areas can safeguard themselves from unprecedented attacks by animals and poisonous insects when they start using the toilets instead of open-defecation.



A subsidy of Rs. 12,500 is provided by the government for construction of toilets.Health ambassadors will be nominated to encourage and create awareness among the people on the necessity of toilets and the illness of open-defecation system'.
