The parents of 24-year old youth, Danapal from Somanur were coming to terms with the fact that their son is no more. Just then, when they were approached to donate their son’s organs, the brave parents of this brain-dead youth donated his vital organs, thus giving a new lease of life to many.
It has been reported that Danapal, who is employed as a driver with a private firm in Gandhi Park was returning home on his motorcycle on 19 November night. His two-wheeler collided head-on with a mini-lorry and an injured Danapal was rushed to a private hospital in Singanallur for treatment.
Doctors at this hospital share that the patient suffered severe head injuries as he was not wearing a helmet. This hospital’s attempts to save Danapal did not help as this patient was not responding to treatment. Subsequently, Danapal was declared brain dead on 27 November at 5.30 pm and at 11.30 pm on the same day.

His family agreed to donate his (Danapal’s) vital organs and the Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (TRANS-TAN) was contacted. Last evening a green corridor was declared by the city traffic police and Danapal’s heart and lungs were transported to Chennai-based Fortis Malar Hospitals, his liver went to GEM Hospitals, kidneys was handed over to KG Hospital, the skin was donated to Ganga Hospital and his eye’s went to Aravind Eye Hospital.
