About 44.30 acres of land belonging to Muthusamy in Mutathu Vayal near Coimbatore was declared as excess land, under the Urban Land Ceiling Act. In 1992 this land was distributed to 46 landless people. It has been reported that Isha Yoga Center and some other organisations purchased the land through forged documents.
Dalits and tribals who were living on the plot allocated to them, requested for housing pattas. Tamil Nadu Tribal People Union, Tami Nadu Farmers Association, Social Justice Party and Adhi Tamilar Party conducted a land recovery agitation requesting that the 44 acres of land be distributed to dalits and tribals.

People who participated in the protest, entered the disputed land and erected poles on four sides and tied a rope connecting the poles. They also alleged that the officials have sold the land to many people by forging the documents and they also stated that 200 acres of land which originally belongs to the tribal people at Ikkarai Poluvampatty has been encroached.
The protestors also insisted that the land that is reported encroached by Isha Yoga Center and others should be distributed to the tribal people, until which they stated, to continue their protest. Revenue Divisional Officer Madhuranthaki, Thasildar Mohan, Coimbatore City Police Commissioner R.V. Ramya Bharathi are conducting talks with the tribal people.
Following fresh protests, this area continued to remain tense as more than 2,000 people protested for more than 2 hours. For security reasons, a huge police force has been deployed in this area.
