S Thirunavukkarasar, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President, was in Coimbatore to participate in various programmes organised by the district Congress party. When interacting with the press he said “The demonetisation process was implemented in a hurry, without taking any precautionary measures. This has put people from all walks of life in a very difficult situation.”
He also stated that it will take many months for the problem of money circulation to be resolved. He questioned Modi’s refusal to speak about the demonetisation exercise in the parliament.
“The Prime Minister must give an explanation in parliament about this decision of his, as a mark of respect to the democracy. It is funny to claim that the ruling government is aiming to abolish black money when ordinary people are suffering.” Thirunavukkarasar said.
He also accused the Central Government for confusing the public about the bank transactions by making a new announcement every single day. He stated that the new Rs.2,000 currency notes are unnecessary and he stated that they (the new 2,000 currency notes) will only help to increase black money rather than decreasing it. He said that efforts should be made to ensure that the new Rs.500 denomination notes are in circulation.
Talking about farmer suicides in our state, Thirunavukkarasar said “Tamil Nadu government has not handed over compensation to the families of the farmers who have committed suicide because of crop failure. Rs.15 lakhs should be provided to the families of the deceased farmers. In order to stop farmers from committing suicide, the agriculture loans that they have obtained from various banks should be waived off.”
When asked about the arrest of terrorists in Tamil Nadu he said, “The State and Central Government should concentrate on maintaining law and order situation in our state.”
