Coimbatore District Tamil Development Department organised a two-day workshop and conference on theme ‘Tamil as official language’. Each year this workshop is hosted in a district of Tamil Nadu and this year the Government Arts College in Coimbatore is hosting this two-day programme. Coimbatore District Revenue Officer, Madhuranthaki inaugurated the event, Anbucheliyan Assistant Director for Development of Tamil welcomed the gathering.

The aim of hosting this programme is to discuss the usage of Tamil at all the levels of the governance. In today’s workshop training will be given to participants on preparing government orders, official notes, history of official languages law, draft laws and official communications. It has been reported that the concluding function will be hosted tomorrow.

Coimbatore Collector T.N. Hariharan will participate in the event. Cheliyan, Project Director (in-charge) for Tamil dictionary project, Durai Thambusamy, Tamil Development, Assistant Director, Thiruchirapalli, Sivasami, Tamil Development Assistant Director, Thoothukudi and over 200 officials from Coimbatore participated in the programme.
