Kovai Pazhamudir Nilayam shows the way by launching eco-friendly 'Jean' shopping bags.

What would you do with an old pair of jeans? You probably would give it away or somehow get rid of them, right? However, Kovai Pazhamudir Nilayam is working on converting pair of jeans into eco-friendly shopping bags.

These eco-friendly jean bags will be used across the Kovai Pazhamudir Nilayam stores in Chennai, Coimbatore and Tirupur. We are told that these bags are made from recyclable and unused jeans and highly durable.

Indu Priya of Danirasa Foundation with the help of self-help groups have created these bags for Palamudhir Nilayam. The cost of manufacturing each bag is just rupees 15 and the first set of 1,000 bags will be used in Coimbatore, so the next time you shop at any of the Kovai Pazhamudir Nilayam outlets, you can take advantage of this unique shopping bag. The highly durable nature of these bags allow the shoppers to use them for repeated purchases.

Kovai Pazhamudir Nilayam has switched to these eco-friendly shopping bags as part of the 'My shopping My Bag' initiative to ban usage of plastic, thus setting an example for other medium and small establishments.
