Family of 51-year old brain-dead woman donate her vital organs

Home maker Sujatha Nayak (51) from Erode was diagnosed of brain hemorrhage and failing to respond to treatment at the Kovai Medical Centre Hospital (KMCH), she was declared brain dead. Her family came ahead and donated her vital organs, thus, giving lease of life to seven.

On 2 December, Sujatha experienced severe head ache and she diagnosed of brain hemorrhage.  First-aid was provided at Care 24 hospital, Erode and she was shifted to KMCH, Avanashi road, Coimbatore for specialised treatment on the same day. A press release from this hospital stated that the patient underwent medical management but failed to respond to treatment and the following day, Sujatha was declared brain dead.

After consulting with the family, her husband, Vishwanath Nayak agreed to donate her organs. A team of doctors from the KMCH and Government Hospital (GH) In the presence of family members and relatives swung into action and completed the statutory requirement.

Last morning, her liver, heart, kidney, eyes and skin were harvested. The harvested organs liver and one kidney was transplanted at KMCH, heart went to a private hospital at Chennai, one kidney, skin and eyes were sent to private hospitals in Coimbatore.
