Dr.B. Krishnaraj Memorial oration 2016 was hosted yesterday, 4 December at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital in Coimbatore. Dean, Dr. P. Sukumaran welcomed the gathering. D. Lakshminarayanaswamy, Joint Managing Trustee of Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, in his presidential address highlighted the eminent qualities of Dr. B. Krishnaraj.

Dr. S. Murali Dharan, Cardio Thoracic Surgeon, CEO and President East Bay Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgical Associates, California spoke on Atrial Fibrillation (also called AFib or AF) -“Newer treatments for an old disease”. In his speech he spoke about the prevalence, causes, clinical aspects and the management of atrial fibrillation.
In his speech he brought to light how atrial fibrillation has “Shortened men’s lives by 18 years and women’s lives by 21 years”. He further elaborated on the recent trends in diagnosis atrial fibrillation and its influence on stroke and other thrombo-embolic phenomenon. He also stressed on the need for intervention, especially the surgical options in treatment of atrial fibrillation”.
Dr. V. Sarveswaran, Head of the Department of General Surgery, introduced the recipients of the Dr. B. Krishnaraj award and Parvathi Krishnaraj, Chairperson of Dr. B. Krishnaraj Memorial Foundation gave away the Dr. B. Krishnaraj Award and cash prizes to Dr. M. Vamseedharan and Dr. J. Gradlin Roy.
