During the last four months, two-wheelers from Kattoor, Saravanampatti and Saibaba colony have reportedly gone missing. The police were unable to nab the culprits. Recently, a two-wheeler was reported stolen from a hotel near Mettupplayam Road. The Saibaba colony police who was investigating the case, nabbed the thief using CCTV footages from a hotel in this area.
Through the CCTV footage, the police was able to identify the thief and a search was on for the culprit behind the theft. It has been reported that Muhammed Rafeeq (43) who owns and runs a mobile shop in Thudiyalur was behind the two-wheeler thefts. When interrogated by the police, Muhammed confessed that loss in business prompted him to take to stealing two-wheelers. In his confession, he also stated that he sold the stolen two-wheelers for anywhere between rupees 500 and 1,000 each and used this money to consume liquor.
The team of police recovered five vehicles from his possession and the police is trying to establish if the accused, Muhammed, is involved in any more thefts.
