For the first time, Coimbatore Forest College to host physical tests for candidates competing for the post of Forester.


The Tamil Nadu Forest Uniform Services Recruitment Board and the Forest Department from the state is currently recruiting the right candidates for the 181 vacancies for the post of Forester. This is the first time that this recruitment is being hosted in Coimbatore. The recruitment process is currently happening at the Forest College Campus, RS Puram.

Nearly 36,000 applications were received for the preliminary written test that was hosted in multiple centres across the state. Out of the numbers, 905 candidates have been short listed to attend the next level of tests, the Physical tests.



Previously, the physical test was scheduled to be hosted at the Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Chennai in December 2016. However, due to the extensive damaged caused by Cyclone Vardah, the physical test was rescheduled to be conducted at the Tamil Nadu Forest Academy, R.S. Puram, Coimbatore. The physical examination that commenced today and will go on till 9th January.

As part of selection of the right candidates for the vacancies, a walking test to check the endurance of the male and female candidates was organised. Male candidates are expected to complete the 25 km walk in four hours and female candidates will have to finish a 16 km walk in four hours time. This will be followed by a biometric test, to check the physical measurements of the candidates. Men should be over 163 cm tall and should have a chest size of 79 cm with five cm expansion while women should be at least 150 cm in height.



P. Jagadeesh, Chairman of Tamil Nadu Forest Uniformed Service Recruitment Committee, speaking to SimpliCity said “Initially, the recruitment happened at the regional level. Later on, it was decided to have a centralized recruitment. Following that a recruitment committee was formed in the year 2012. In the year 2015, the process of recruitment started with a written test. The candidates shortlisted from the physical test will automatically qualify for the interview. Out of 905 candidates, we have nearly 270 female candidates which is good sign that female candidates are coming ahead to take up this job.”

Commenting on working with the forest department, he stated “Forest department is one of the great departments to work with and people will have government job security. With the increasing awareness about the job profile and nature of work, a lot of applications have been received. In a few months time, another recruitment drive will be announced, so interested candidates can post in the applications and take up the written exams.” Jagadeesh said.

We are told that through this recruitment drive, on a daily basis around 200 candidates are screened. The results will be made official online on the website once the screening process on all applicants is completed..
