S.P. Velumani distributes dhotis and sarees for Pongal

S.P. Velumani minister for Municipal management, Rural development, and special schemes implementation distributed sarees and dhotis for the Pongal festival to beneficiaries. Deputy speaker of Tamil Nadu Assembly Pollachi V. Jayaraman, Coimbatore District Collector T.N. Hariharan were also present during the distribution ceremony.



When speaking after distributing the sarees and dhotis minister S.P. Velumani said, “The former chief minister of Tamil Nadu initiated the distribution of free sarees and dhotis to the people from the poor section of society. This scheme was implemented to ensure that the poor people of our state also celebrate Pongal.”

“In Coimbatore, the Pongal gift is provided to 8,77,058 families who receive rice through public distribution system.  The Pongal gift will consist of 1kg raw rice, 1kg sugar, a 2ft sugarcane, 20gms dry grapes, 20gm cashew nut, 5gram Elachi. Sarees for 571340 women and 558496 dhotis for men will be provided. Efforts will be made to quickly distribute the Pongal gifts. People should get this Pongal gift pack and should celebrate Pongal in a grand manner.” he said.

Kaleeswari a beneficiary said, “I am happy to receive this Pongal gift issued by the Tamil Nadu government. The gift will enable us to celebrate Pongal with our family happily. I thank Tamil Nadu government for this gift.” she said.
