Capacity Building Obstetric Skill workshop on 'Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics' (ALSO) was recently hosted at Sri Ramakrishna Hospitals, Coimbatore in partnership with American Academy of Family Physicians and GVK EMRI Hyderabad.
Advancement in obstetrics and gynecology is very crucial, as globally 800 women die everyday due to preventable causes related to pregnancy and child birth, out of which a shocking 20% is from India. Our nation records 70,000 childbirths everyday, hence it becomes high-priority to stay advanced in the field of obstetrics and gynecology to annihilate child and mother fatalities during labor.
Dr. P Sukumaran, Dean of Sri Ramakrishna Hospitals inaugurated this programme, today.

Dr. Sajjini Thomas, Presence Resurrection Medical Center, Chicago is the Course Director accompanied by Dr. Teresa Hubka and Dr. Lise Weiseberger from USA. Dr. Raja Narsing MD, GVK EMRI, Hyderabad was the coordinator for the event.
Close to forty doctors, belonging to obstetrics and gynecology department participated in the meeting. This workshop is formulated in accordance with National Maternal Health and Welfare schemes in capacity building, by means of short term training using models and dummies.
Through this ALSO Provider certification course, the participating doctors can acquire updated knowledge and skills to equip themselves for a practical and team based approach and tackle efficiently the potential emergencies in pregnancy. The course centered around the management of the emergencies in delivery such as obstructed labour, postpartum hemorrhage, postpartum collapse, etc.
Dr P Sukumaran, Dean SRH Inaugurated the program. The doctors who participated in the program cleared their queries with the eminent faculty members, who enthusiastically guided the participants throughout the course. The participants thanked the Organizing Secretary, Dr. M Banumathy of Sri Ramakrishna Hospitals and the Course Director Dr. Sajjini Thomas for organizing such momentous programmes in Coimbatore.
