Tradition takes centre stage at Pongal celebrations at Sankara College of Science and Commerce


Team work, unity and sportsmanship took centre stage at the Pongal celebrations that was hosted at Sankara College of Science and Commerce, today. Dressed in dhotis and saris, the students of this college made the audience feel the essence of the harvest festival. 

From decorating their campus with traditional rangolis to playing traditional games like tug uriyadi, rope pulling, the students worked as a team and put their earnest efforts to ensure that Pongal was celebrated in a grand and memorable way at their campus. 



Teams of students exhibited their talents in silambattam, karakattam, kolattam, kalaripayattu and bharatanatyam dance, which received a thunderous applause from the audience.



Staffs and students participated in the celebrations wearing dhoti and saree. Secretary of Sankara educational institutions T.P. Ramachandran, Joint Director, Sandhya Ramachandran, Assistant Secretary, Nithya Ramachandran presided over the function. Principal of Sankara College of Science and Commerce, Dr. H. Balakrishnan, Assistant Principal, S. Bernard Edward, heads of all departments, professors and students participated in the celebrations.



The students cooked Pongal, the traditional way using mud pots, which was relished by all at the college.
